Brutha-ly Love

Welcome to the quarry of the quintessential quirk, the caberet of the crazed cretin, the abode of the aberrant aristocrat, the nexus of the neurotic engineer, the diary of the dogmatic dog-lover and the ranch of the revolutionary romantic! Have fun at your own expense!

To: WeeShuMin, RJC

See "Wee Shu Min, the Slammed RJC Girl" for background info.

You may or may not remember me from the Orientation Reporting Team earlier this year, where I interviewed you for the 'Orange' publication.

Nonetheless, the impression you left on me from that meeting was NOT one of the high-and-mighty, NOT one of the elite. You were down-to-earth, cheerful and effervescent.

You don't deserve all this slamming and negative publicity. Singaporeans are so stupid, so ugry, that they don't see the torment they've unleashed on a mere 18-year old. They don't realise that this mob behaviour is one that could potentially lead to the downfall of public opinion and free speech. Why particularly chastise and criticise one of the 'elite', leaving the cretinous freeloaders of the world unscathed?

I know the effects that negative (read: defamatory) publicity can have on one. Even though its not even in the same scale as yours, I don't think anybody deserves it (unless they didnt get their articles into the forum).

Censorship from the masses is still censorship. I hope that everyone who bullied and flamed you could just play the observer for a while, and see what 'ethics' they themselves are enforcing.

Stay strong, and I hope this does not affect your A levels!

I applaud you for speaking your mind. Your entry was a much better read than Derek's.

That's life. This is my opinion. Accept it.

What you don't realize is her ability to turn from an angel to a foul-mouthed brat and vice versa instantly.

One encounter, especially for publicity, is not enough.

Surely you don't expect to her to reveal her ugly side for that interview.

I agree that some of the personal attacks on Shu Min were unwarranted e.g. references to certain parts of her anatomy.

However, she did herself a disservice by closing down her blog and not fully apologising for her insensitive remarks. She self-censored her own right of reply. While some immature bloggers went overboard by launching critiques of her rather than her ideas and values, what she says is a reflection of the elite in society.

Wait till you become 40 years old, your bachelor's degree or even masters may not recession-proof your job and security.

When you are young, the world is full of possibilities, when age catches up with you, the fear of insecurity is very real.

    bastard.

i cant believe u are siding her.

you are just making everyone sure-r that rjc people are elitists and think that they are the best.

    have i called u a bastard yet?
    oh yeah i have.

    hmm true true.

but note that what makes blogs really interesting is the fire, the passion and the captured 'heat-of-the-' moments. i think that some of what she said was definitely overboard, but its not unwarranted.

if one of us 'normal' singaporeans said it? would anyone have cared? i think most of the flame came from the fact that shes RJC and MP's daughter..

[Singaporeans are so stupid, so ugry, that they don't see the torment they've unleashed on a mere 18-year old.]

Yes, a mere 18-year old who could have made use of her language talent to write more inspiring essay. Her writing is full of craps, & I think she deserves the title "Best writer of foul language". Didn't her father refered to her writing as "that sort language" in his recent apology? Perhaps you can tell us what he meant when he said "that sort of language".

[They don't realise that this mob behaviour is one that could potentially lead to the downfall of public opinion and free speech. ]

Nobody shut down her blog. She did it herself, or maybe under her father's supervision.

[I know the effects that negative (read: defamatory) publicity can have on one. Even though its not even in the same scale as yours, I don't think anybody deserves it (unless they didnt get their articles into the forum).]

The whole article written by her didn't appear in the newspaper, why?
Because it was blatantly written, that is why it was not published.

[Censorship from the masses is still censorship. I hope that everyone who bullied and flamed you could just play the observer for a while, and see what 'ethics' they themselves are enforcing.]

You get it wrong again. It is self-censorship. Who is enforcing ethics if you accept the fact that it is a world of free speech?
If you have the courage to write, then be prepared to face the real world, be prepared to argue with those who do not agree with your opinion. DON'T BE A COWARD! HIDING UNDER A CARPET IS THE LAST THING A PERSON WOULD DO!

[I applaud you for speaking your mind. Your entry was a much better read than Derek's.]

yEAH, much better because it stinks, full of foul language. Derek is no match to her.

[That's life. This is my opinion. Accept it.]

That's life. Stand up and face the world! Don't hide under the carpet!
Accept that you made a mistake and don't repeat the same thing again.
Afterall, nobody bothers whether you are an elite or non-elite, it is the "basic human manner" that counts.
